Castleblayney and Athlone have just made the growing parkrun list of events throughout Ireland. A total of 33 Parkrun events are taking place across Ireland every week. Park Run encourages everyone from the novice walker/jogger to the more fine tuned runner. These 5km timed events take place every Saturday morning of the year - just register for free and bring along your printed bar-code. The HSE Community Games National Festival takes place over 2 weekends in August. If you are not already involved, why not come along and support the 8,000 children who will be participatiing in a range of activities from athletics, basketball, soccer and swimming to name but a few. .
The An Post Cycle Series, supported by An Post and the Irish Sports Council, encourages communities around the country to get on their bikes. Family routes are approx 10kms, while short, medium and long distance routes are apprx 60kms, 100kms, and 160kms. The series hosts one event around the country each month between May and September.
